The Kokoda Challenge Association works in collaboration with a number of like-minded organisations.
If it wasn't for the help and generosity of the the public (volunteers, supporters, sponsors, donors, etc) the Kokoda Challenge Association would not exist. The Assocation recognises this and incorporates the community philosophy into the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program. The final eight months of the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program requires our Kokoda Kids to volunteer one Sunday a month to other not-for-profit charity events or organisations.
In recent years the Kokoda Kids have been able to give back to organisations and events such as: The Champions Cup, The GCCC Pet Expo, The Salvation Army, Surfing for the Disabled, Mudgeeraba Community Fair, Riding for the Disabled, Numinbah State School and Greenslopes RSL.
If you know of a community group or event that requires the assistance of our volunteer Kokoda Kids, please contact dan@kokodachallenge.com
With a little help from our friends
In 2005 the Kokoda Challenge Association developed early ties with the Gold Coast Bushwalking Club to design the route for the Kokoda Challenge Event and gather volunteer support. As such a strong part of the Kokoda Challenge Associations Mission is the protection of the environment for the enjoyment of future generations.
The Queensland Police Service and Gold Coast State Emergency Services work closely with the Kokoda Challenge Association on the weekend of the Kokoda Challenge to ensure safety of participants and spectators. The Gold Coast City Council, the Department of Main Roads and the State Parks and Wildlife Services all provide the vital support necessary for the success of the Kokoda Challenge.
Local RSLs, High Schools, the Queensland Police Service and a number of youth support organisations contribute to identifying young people to be participants of the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program. Relationships Australia supports the Kokoda Challenge Association with the provision of a Youth Worker along with counselling and other vital support which contributes to the success of the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program. Wesley Mission Brisbane has also provided vital support to the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program and has assisted the Kokoda Challenge Association to develop best practices for managing the youth program.
