CONGRATULATIONS ON SUPPORTING A CHARITY AND CONTRIBUTING TO THE COMMUNITY!

You will find that with a bit of creativity and confidence, rallying support for your team is rewarding and simpler than you think – the top fundraising teams for the last four years have all said that raising money is ‘as simple as asking’.

“When we entered the Kokoda Challenge we simply called business contacts, friends and family, explained the cause and they were more than happy to make a donation,"  Team leader, Wally from 2010 top fundraiser, Gordon Green Machine.

The Kokoda Challenge Association is a registered charity and all donations are fully tax deductable.

Be social

Post your favourite pics, videos or updates on facebook, myspace, twitter or youtube. All you have to do is link it back to your team fundraising page to keep your friends and family up to date.

Corporate Sponsorship

Why not ask your work or a local business to sponsor your team. Lots of work places support community activities. In return you can post the supporters logo on your team page, wear their shirt during the event, or even name your team after their business.

Host an event

  • Garden or street sausage sizzle - this a great way to raise money and get together with family and friends

  • Trivia and film nights - R.S.L clubs, bowls clubs and cinemas will often host a night for you with half of the money raised donated to your team fundraising

  • Birthday party. Have everything you need? Why not be really generous and ask for a donation to your team instead of a birthday present

  • Free clothes day - encourage co-workers to dress down for the day for a gold coin donation

  • Board game night - invite family and friends over for a game night where the proceeds go toward your team fundraising goal

  • Golf day - a fantastic opportunity for workmates and friends to get out in the open air and play a round for charity

  • Garage sale - if you have been thinking about getting rid of unwanted items, garage sales are a great way to meet new people and easily raise funds from your own front-yard

  • Parched March - missed out on dry July or October? Why not try Parched March and seek sponsorship for your alcohol-free month

  • Work car wash - offer workmates to wash their car for them, for a small fee - you'd be surprised who may take up the offer

  • Murder/mystery evening - invite a group to enjoy a murder/mystery night at your house and collect a small cover-fee on entry to the party

  • Pizza lunch fundraiser - work together with people at your business to organise a pizza lunch fundraiser, everyone chips in $10 and all surplus money goes towards your team fundraising goal

  • Lamington/cake drive - a great one for budding chefs, and it's also a fun and easy way to raise money

Host a BBQ at Anaconda or Bunnings

Both Anaconda and Bunnings allow groups raising money for the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program to host a BBQ at their stores on a Saturday and Sunday. You provide the snags and they provide the BBQ. For more information contact info@kokodachallenge.com

Guessing game

The guessing game is an oldie but a goodie, fill up a jar of M&M’s or coins and ask people to guess the quantity. Perhaps you could ask your supporters to guess how many km’s you (or your team mates) will walk without complaining!

Receipt books

The Kokoda Challenge has receipt books available for anyone who would like to take donations in person. You can write your sponsor a tax deductable receipt on the spot. Drop us a line here  and we will post one out.

Get creative

In the past participants have come up with some very creative ideas to raise money such as a Bollywood themed Kokoda Challenge Party, hosting courses for people to get their boat licences, wearing fancy dress during the Challenge or selling a piece of art work (these are all linked to stories) and many more.

Get a guest speaker

Kokoda Challenge Chairman, Doug Henderson is available to speak at fundraising events or at your work place. Please email juliew@kokodachallenge.com for more information.
